The land for Stephens State Park was given to the State of New Jersey for park purposes in 1937 by Marsena P. and Augustus W. Stephens. This rugged, picturesque area includes nearly a mile of the Musconetcong River. One can trace the roots of the park's history by viewing the old Victorian Homestead and the lime kiln in Stephens State Park. The Saxton Falls portion of the park, less than a mile upstream, was acquired when the Morris Canal was abandoned in 1922. It includes the dam and the canal guard lock through which canal boats once passed. |

GPS Coordinates DMS 40° 52â 09.06â N 74° 48' 36.00" W From Route 80 West - Exit 25 - stay to the left to exit onto Route 206 North. At the 2nd traffic light, make a left onto Waterloo Road (Route 604) and travel 7 miles. Entrance is on your left. From Route 80 East - Exit 19. End of exit ramp, make a left onto Route 517. At the 2nd traffic light, make a left onto Bilby Road. End of Bilby Road make a left onto Willow Grove Street (Route 604). Entrance is on the right less than 1/2 mile. |

Alcoholic berverages are NOT permitted in any New Jersey State Park Service Area. Black bears are present in New Jersey. During your stay at the park, all coolers, food-related items and toiletries MUST be stored in the trunk of your vehicle at all times. Garbage should be promptly removed from your campsite and secured in the appropriate bear-proof receptacle. Minimum Age - camping facilities and sites must be reserved by at least one person 18 years of age or older, who shall occupy and be responsible for the facility or site during the rental period. Firewood - firewood is not furnished at campsites, but can be purchased at the office during regular business hours. Visitors are allowed at the camping facilities between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Quiet hours MUST be observed between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.Campsites must be reserved for a minimum of 2 nights. The maximum length of stay in a campsite is 14 consecutive nights. |

Stephens State Park is just one of many New Jersey State Parks in northern New Jersey. Jenny Jump State Forest, Worthing State Forest, Swartswood State Park and Hopatcong State Park are all under an hour drive. Waterloo Village, located in Allamuchy Mt. State Park, is approximately 5 miles away. Call Stephens State Park office (908) 852-3790 or go to www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/url to get a schedule of Canal Heritage Days. There is a Rock Climbing Area located about 5 miles away in Allamuchy Mt. State Park. A waiver for individual climbing, available at the Stephens State Park office or online at www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/url MUST be signed first. There are many other nearby attractions in Warren, Sussex and Morris Counties. The nearby Delaware River and Delaware Water gap National Recreation Area also offer many recreational activities for visiting families to enjoy. |

Stephens State Park offers many recreational activities for both day and overnight visitors. Picnic tables and charcoal grills are available, many of which are located right along the river. Designated multi-use trails are available for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Jersey Off-Road Bicycle association (JORBA) provides trail maintenance. Stephens State Park is a favorite choice for mountain biking in the area. All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) are not permitted in the park. Stephens State Park offers 39 tent campsites, some of which can accommodate RVs, but they must be self-contained as there are no water, sewer or electric hookups available at the park. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. There is also a playground and a playing field in the camping area. Stephens State Park offers excellent fishing opportunities for the freshwater angler. During the spring and fall, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife stocks the Musconetcong River with brown, rainbow and brook trout. A New Jersey fishing license is required for individuals between the ages of 16 and 70. Canoeing and kayaking are enjoyable activities, especially when river conditions are favorable. More than 470 acres of Stephens State Park are open to hunting. Hunting is subject to NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife regulations. |
